Rockin' the Keyboard in Firefox
Every day - and I mean every freaking day - I watch someone enter a new URI into their Firefox address bar by clicking, selecting, deleting and typing. Ugh.
Cmd+L (Mac)
Control+L (Windows)
That shortcut handles the clicking and the selecting, now just start typing. Any existing text will be cleared with the first key press. Windows users have the option of hitting F6 in lieu of Control+L.
A related bonus hint for those who don't already know it: Any time text is selected, in any application, it doesn't have to be "manually" deleted by hitting the Backspace or Delete key. Just start typing. Really.
Update 9.18.2007 {
The title of this post may be misleading or, at the very least, limited. I've been informed by Andy Jarrett in the comments below that this shortcut also works in Safari, Camino and Opera. I didn't know that.
Thanks, Andy.
