Catch Bob Schneider Live

If you like music and ever get the chance, do what you can to see Bob Schneider live. A friend of mine introduced me to him about a year ago by taking me to a show in Falls Church, VA. I had never heard of the guy at the time and knew none of his stuff, but I had a really good time at the concert. You know a show is good if you enjoy yourself in spite of your own ignorance of the musician.

I hadn't had a chance to see him again - although he comes to Baltimore from time to time - but Friday night he was back in Falls Church. Seriously, this guy puts on a terrific show.

I'd like to tell you what genre he fits into, but he fits neatly into none. His songs range from acoustic to rock to acoustic rock to irreverent hip-hop to hints of bluegrass. Just when you think you have a sense of his style he plays something that you totally didn't expect. It's hard not to like a show that keeps you on your toes like that.

If you have a minute, take a listen on iTunes. Suggested listening (in no particular order):

  1. Captain Kirk
  2. Getting Better
  3. Jingy
  4. Bullets
  5. I'm Good Now
  6. Blauu
  7. Funky Weather
If you have a few hours, catch the live show. Be prepared to participate - even if you don't know the music. You'll probably have a good time.

Also...Look for music by 'The Scabs.' This is his band that from time to time, he will still play with in Austin. The music is quite different from his solo albums - it's really rowdy, upbeat and lyrically explicit and they put on an Awesome live show - there are quite a few musicians in the band playing all sorts of instruments.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll add them to my must see list. Unfortunately, I'm not in Austin (although it's on my list of places to visit) so unless he tours with the band I may never get the chance.
