GMark Bookmarklet
TechnicalAs many computers as I use in as many different locations, I've come to rely more and more on a central bookmark repository. Because I already use Google to manage my mail and calendar , King G was a natural selection to manage my bookmarks, too.
To ease the transition, I "installed" a bookmarklet that would automatically launch the GMark window and pre-populate the URL and page title of the page I was currently visiting. Now it was just as easy to create a GMark as it was to create a traditional bookmark.
After a few months, though, I've found that I need just a little bit more. What I found myself doing for virtually every GMark was copying some summary text from the page, launching the window and then pasting that text into the Notes field of the Gmark form. Today, that got repetitive and annoying enough that I just updated the bookmarklet to do most of the work for me.
The modified bookmarklet will capture any text you've selected on the page and automatically place it in the Notes field. This has only been tested within the context of my use and works fine in Firefox 2.0.0.2. I'll do some further testing and update this post, as required.
To install, just drag the GMarkIt link to to your Links toolbar or to your Bookmarks/Favorites menu.
If you find any problems, please let me know.
